What is Energy Healing?

Energy healing, as used on this site, refers to healing methods, systems, practices, and techniques that are based on the concept of subtle energyenergies that proponents believe surround, run through, and operate in the human body.

Energy psychology is an umbrella term for mind-body therapies and techniques that address disruptions of subtle energy that appear to cause emotional distress, negative thinking and unwanted behaviors. Methods include working with the human energy system through acupressure-like techniques, such as Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) and Thought Field Therapy (TFT), that feature self-tapping on particular points on the body. Other techniques work with the body's chakra, aura or biofield. Some techniques are based on the concept of "thought energy fields" that operate on the quantum level.

Energy coaching, a fairly new term, refers to using energy psychology techniques in coaching settings.

Energy psychiatry is a term popularized by Judith Orloff, M.D. to describe her energy-based psychiatry practice.
